As reported by the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, May 9, 2026, the well-known adage that one can run but cannot hide forever was exemplified in the case of Adebayo, a suspect in an armed robbery and murder. He was located and arrested two months after allegedly killing a commercial motorcyclist named Tiamiyu Afeez.

Adebayo was accused of attacking the victim with a knife, resulting in fatal injuries, and then stealing his motorcycle.

After several weeks of investigation, detectives from the Homicide Section of the Osun State Police Command arrested Adebayo on Saturday, April 18. During the operation, they also recovered the stolen motorcycle.

His arrest occurred at a time when the family of the deceased had nearly lost hope of seeing the perpetrator identified and brought to justice.

Following his capture, Adebayo reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that his actions stemmed from a long-standing grudge he had held against the victim for about four years.

He detailed how he meticulously planned and carried out the attack while pretending it was just a regular motorcycle ride.

Describing the events that led to the murder, he said, “The day after I got his phone number, I called him to take me somewhere. The road was overgrown and isolated. It was in the afternoon, and I already had a hidden knife. I told him to be careful as we moved through the bushes, knowing that my attack would cause us both to fall off the motorcycle.”

He continued to detail how he executed the attack, saying, “Out of nowhere, I used the knife to cut his throat from behind, and we both fell. He got up and started arguing that he was willingly giving me the motorcycle. I told him I didn’t want to take it; I was just reacting to him the same way he had treated me.”

According to Adebayo, the situation turned into a struggle as the victim attempted to flee.

“We began to grapple. He started to run away, and I went to grab his motorcycle to leave before he could. I took a different route. On the fifth day, I found out he had died and that his family was preparing for his funeral,” he recalled.

After the incident, Adebayo confessed that he initially kept and used the motorcycle for personal and business purposes, even though he knew it could put him in danger.

“At first, since I realized I couldn’t sell the motorcycle, I began using it for both personal and commercial activities. However, worried about getting caught with it, I eventually left it with a friend’s wife,” he explained.

“I know what I did is against the law. It was the devil that pushed me. I plead with the government to bestow mercy on me and forgive me.”
