The Oyo State Police Command has reacted to reports alleging the movement of terrorists into parts of Ogbomoso and surrounding communities, dismissing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said there was no credible intelligence to support reports of suspected Lukarawa terrorists infiltrating forests around Ogbomoso and the Old Oyo National Park.

According to The Tribune, the police explained that a viral video and voice note circulating on social media, which claimed terrorists had entered the area, were not based on verified facts. According to the command, investigations revealed that the video being shared is an old clip that has been deliberately recycled to create fear and panic among residents.

The statement noted that comprehensive intelligence assessments and security reports available to the command do not indicate the presence of any terrorist group within the affected communities.

Despite dismissing the claims, the police said security measures have been strengthened across Ogbomoso and neighbouring areas. The command disclosed that intelligence and covert operatives have been deployed to border communities and other vulnerable locations to reinforce existing security arrangements.

According to the police, the operatives are working closely with traditional rulers, local vigilante groups, hunters and community-based intelligence networks to improve information gathering and ensure rapid response to any security threat.

The command also stated that visibility policing, confidence-building patrols, stop-and-search operations and strategic deployments have been intensified around Ogbomoso, the Old Oyo National Park axis and adjoining communities.

In addition, police presence has been increased around the Old Oyo National Park as efforts continue to rescue the 47 pupils, students and teachers reportedly abducted from schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities, as well as track down the suspected kidnappers.

The Oyo State Police Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while advising the public to verify security-related information through official channels before sharing it.

Residents were also encouraged to report any suspicious movement, individuals or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies for prompt action.
