President Donald Trump was escorted from the stage by U.S. Secret Service agents after reports of possible gunfire disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
Security personnel also evacuated Vice President JD Vance along with several members of the Cabinet who were in attendance at the event, which took place at the Washington Hilton.
According to initial reports, Secret Service agents reacted immediately after indications of gunfire were detected inside the venue, prompting a rapid security response and evacuation of key officials.
Authorities later confirmed that one individual was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Sources familiar with the situation indicated that both the President and Vice President were safely removed from the venue, while administration officials confirmed that other senior government officials present were unharmed.
Following the disruption, Trump later stated on social media that a suspect had been apprehended and commended security and law enforcement personnel for their swift response.
He also indicated that he was returning to the White House at the request of security officials.
A journalist with CNN, Wolf Blitzer, who was present at the event, reported being in close proximity to the unfolding situation as it developed.
