NDC drops fresh bombshell on money donation to party’s account

Senator Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC), has explained why the party requires all donations to be paid into its designated account.

Dickson said the decision was made to ensure transparency and proper auditing of party finances. According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the authority to audit the party’s financial records whenever necessary.

He added that the public would be informed if such an audit takes place.

The clarification comes amid ongoing controversies involving supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are reported to be the NDC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Dickson, a former two-term governor of Bayelsa State and current senator, has recently spoken about the activities of some supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso within the party. He urged the leaders to caution their supporters against attacking NDC officials.

Nigerians React

Dickson’s explanation regarding donations has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Shuayb said:

“Both Kwankwaso and Peter Obi will have a problem with this audit shield Dickson is providing for the NDC. While it is in the best interest of the party, ideally, there’s a clear lack of trust with public funding.”

Godsent defended Peter Obi:

“Oga, donations to NDC will go to NDC accounts. Personal donations to PO go to PO. Donations to the Obidient movement go to the Obidient movement too. These are all independent bodies. You can’t be sabotaging the process and expect people to follow your order, no way. You can’t appoint known critics of your presidential aspirant and expect them to trust you. We are in this because of Obi and not you, sir.”

Shamsuddeen commended Dickson’s leadership:

“The national leader of the NDC is doing a great job, but Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are not happy about it just because of their own interests. The leaders of the party won’t let any hijackers come in to hijack their party.”

Imoh criticised Peter Obi and some of his supporters:

“Peter Obi is a cunning man; nobody will hand over power to him. He had already sealed a deal when he was in ADC. He was playing along; I knew he was not real. NDC was set up for them already; that was the reason they were all ranting Peter Obi will be on ballot.”

Wike Taunts Peter Obi

Earlier, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike criticised Peter Obi, questioning his political courage and leadership qualities.

Wike argued that leadership requires confronting and solving existing problems. He referenced Obi’s movement through several political parties, including APGA, PDP, Labour Party, ADC, and now the NDC, as part of his criticism.

The minister’s remarks have continued to fuel debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
