In a statement on X on Friday, July 10, 2026, AAC 2027 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore celebrated the safe release of teachers and schoolchildren abducted from Orire in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, bringing an end to a harrowing two-month captivity that had gripped the nation.

In the statement, Sowore declared, “The teachers and children abducted from Orire in Ogbomoso in Oyo State have all been released!” Accompanying the announcement was a poignant group photograph showing dozens of smiling children and adults gathered outdoors amid lush greenery, their faces reflecting relief and resilience after weeks of uncertainty.

Sowore expressed deep gratitude to all involved in the rescue effort. “My heartfelt gratitude and best regards to everyone who worked tirelessly and contributed in one way or another to making their release possible. Welcome home!,” he wrote.

The activist appended the hashtag #FreeZaianabNOW, linking the victory to his wider campaign for justice and the release of other detainees. The abduction occurred on May 15 when armed gunmen stormed three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, seizing 39 pupils and seven teachers.
