The controversy began during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, when a video showing Sisi Alagbo kneeling to greet Osimhen surfaced online and rapidly spread across various platforms. The gesture triggered widespread debate, with some applauding it as a sign of deep cultural respect, while others felt it was unnecessary and outdated in modern public interactions.
Reacting to the renewed conversations around the clip, Sisi Alagbo maintained that her action was not accidental or for show, but rather a reflection of her cultural background. She explained that within Yoruba tradition, kneeling is a recognised form of greeting that expresses respect, humility, and honour, particularly when addressing respected or accomplished individuals.
She further dismissed criticisms of her action, insisting that people were misinterpreting her intentions. Reaffirming her stance, she stated: “If I see Osimhen again, I will kneel down to greet him as a proper Yoruba girl that I am. I am a beautiful story.”
