Five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, have opened up on their terrifying experience after being rescued from kidnappers who ambushed them on the Isara-Ode road.

The students said what began as a simple food trip quickly turned into a nightmare when armed men posing as security operatives stopped their vehicle and seized control.

According to the victims, the gunmen forced them into a nearby forest, made them trek for hours, and later demanded millions of naira in ransom while threatening to kill them.

One of the students, speaking in fear, said the attackers acted like police officers before revealing their true identity at gunpoint.

“They threatened to kill us if we couldn’t pay ₦20 million each. At some point, they pointed guns at us and said we would not leave alive,” he recounted.

The victims also claimed the kidnappers appeared familiar with the terrain and moved confidently within the area, raising suspicion that they were not strangers to the locality.

In a separate account, another student revealed that the driver of the vehicle was shot in the leg and faced a higher ransom demand of ₦40 million.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the rescue, stating that operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee with suspected gunshot wounds.

Police authorities added that all five victims were recovered alive, debriefed, and taken for medical attention following the ordeal.
