A heavy cloud of grief has descended on Ogudu land in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State following the passing of its traditional ruler, Oba Nojeemdeen Fashola, the Ologudu of Ogudu land.

The respected first-class monarch reportedly died peacefully in the early hours of Friday at his residence in Ogudu, according to palace sources. While the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed, the palace confirmed that the king “departed this world in peace.”

His transition has thrown the entire community into mourning, with residents, chiefs, and sympathisers gathering to pay tribute to a ruler widely described as a symbol of wisdom, humility, and fatherly leadership.

In honour of the late monarch, several community activities have been scaled down, while market operations in parts of Ogudu have also been adjusted in line with Yoruba traditional rites and mourning customs.

Oba Fashola ascended the throne four years ago and, during his reign, was credited with promoting unity, cultural preservation, and peaceful coexistence in the community. He was particularly admired for his calm leadership style, accessibility to his people, and commitment to the development of Ogudu land.

As tributes continue to pour in, many residents have described his death as a painful loss to the community and Lagos traditional institution at large.
