Shock and anger have gripped Kibera after a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly selling human remains as beef to unsuspecting residents.
The suspect, said to be from the Gusii community, was picked up by police after locals raised alarm over cheap meat being sold in the area. Officers who moved in quickly say they found tissue that looks suspicious and have launched a full investigation.
Residents say they noticed the meat looked strange and was being sold at prices far below market rate. Many who bought from him are now worried about their health and safety.
Police have urged anyone who bought meat from the suspect to visit a hospital and report to the nearest station. They’ve also warned the public to avoid buying meat from unlicensed sellers in the streets.
The suspect remains in custody as forensic tests are carried out to confirm what the tissue actually is. If charged, he could face serious criminal counts.
