Terrorists struck a major blow on the Isanlu Road in Kogi State on Tuesday, killing two innocent travellers and abducting five others in a brazen daylight ambush.
The attack, which occurred along the busy Isanlu Road, has triggered fresh panic among commuters and residents in the North-Central region, where highway kidnappings have become increasingly frequent and deadly.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to Sahara Reporters, armed terrorists suddenly emerged and opened fire on vehicles plying the route. In the ensuing chaos, two persons were shot dead on the spot while five others were forcibly dragged into the bush by the gunmen.
The victims are believed to be ordinary travellers who were simply going about their daily activities when they came under sudden attack. As of the time of this report, no ransom demand has been made public, and security forces have launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted individuals.
Growing Fear on Kogi Highways
This latest incident adds to a disturbing pattern of attacks on major roads in Kogi State. The Isanlu Road, which serves as a critical link for travellers, has become a dangerous corridor where bandits and terrorists operate with relative ease. Many residents now avoid night travel and long journeys on these routes due to the constant threat of ambush.
Security analysts say the boldness of the attackers — striking in broad daylight — reflects the growing sophistication and confidence of criminal elements in the area.
Security Response
Security agencies have confirmed the attack and assured the public that intensive operations are underway to track down the terrorists and secure the release of the abducted victims. However, many locals have expressed frustration over what they describe as slow response times to such incidents.
The development has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger security presence on Nigeria’s highways, especially in volatile regions like Kogi.
