According to a report by The Nation Nigeria on Monday, April 20, 2026, disc jockey Kudirat Gbemisola, widely known as DJ Kulet, has revealed that she previously lived a life of prostitution before experiencing what she describes as a complete spiritual transformation after turning to Christianity.
She made the disclosure during a testimony session at a church service on Sunday, where she spoke openly about her past struggles, personal growth, and journey out of hardship.
In her account, DJ Kulet said her earlier life in Surulere, particularly around the Lawanson area of Lagos, was marked by instability and hardship. She noted that her story was already known within parts of the community due to her visibility at the time.
Following the service, she further shared her experience in a post on her Instagram page on Monday, describing her life as one that moved “from a mess to a message.” According to her, she once lived on the streets of Lagos, experienced homelessness, and survived through prostitution before her circumstances began to change.
She recounted how her living conditions gradually improved through a series of transitions. At one point, she said a man rented a single-room apartment for her, commonly referred to in Lagos slang as a “face me I slap” building. Later, another benefactor reportedly supported her with a self-contained apartment, which she said marked a shift in her living situation.
DJ Kulet explained that her career as a disc jockey later became a turning point, enabling her to afford better accommodation, including a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment. Despite the progress, she said she once endured difficult conditions, including living for two years in a building without a functioning toilet due to incomplete construction by her landlord.
She added that her situation improved further as her DJ career developed, eventually allowing her to move into a four-bedroom en-suite apartment.
In her testimony, she also revealed that she acquired a house in Surulere in April 2024, stating that the purchase was fully funded through her work and not through prostitution. She emphasized that she paid for the property outright, including agency fees.
DJ Kulet described her journey as a testimony of transformation, crediting her current life and achievements to her faith and career progress.
Reflecting on her experience, she said her life had been completely changed from what it once was, stating that the same area where she once struggled had become the place where she now owns property.
