The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly reprimanded an acting director over the absence of some senior officials at a project flag-off ceremony in Abuja.

In a video aired by Channels Television, Wike expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of several directors to attend the event, particularly questioning the absence of the Acting Director of Development Control. He directed the Acting Head of Service to relay a warning to the official, stating that his commitment and performance would be subjected to close scrutiny.

Wike emphasized that officials serving in acting capacities must demonstrate dedication and accountability if they expect to secure substantive appointments. He also cautioned against using labour unions or strike actions as a shield from responsibility.

The minister further ordered development control authorities to step up enforcement against illegal structures across the FCT, insisting that buildings erected on improperly allocated land should be demolished.

In a pointed remark, Wike said the absent official’s family members were likely watching the live broadcast and would hear his message. He warned that the official was aware of the consequences of failing to carry out directives issued by the FCT administration.

According to Wike, “I’m sure his wife, his children, his parents are hearing it now because this is on live television. Let the wife hear, let the children hear, let the parents hear. If he does not do what we said, he knows what will happen.”
