Popular Kano-based musician and staunch APC supporter, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, has accused former Kano State governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of contributing to the economic hardship currently facing Nigerians.
Rarara made the allegation during an interview with the online platform SL Update, arguing that many of the country’s present challenges are linked to past policies involving the management of local government funds.
According to him, the practice of withholding local government allocations from direct control by local councils has negatively affected grassroots development across Nigeria.
“Local Government Funds Are the Lifeline of the People”
Speaking during the interview, Rarara said local governments should be allowed to operate independently and directly access their allocations without interference from higher levels of government.
He said:
“Local government funds are the lifeline of the people. They are what bring government services closer to ordinary citizens at the grassroots level. When those funds are withheld or controlled elsewhere, essential services meant for the people are affected.”
The singer argued that the effects of such practices are still being felt in critical sectors including healthcare, education, rural infrastructure and water supply.
Rarara Links Current Hardship to Past Governance Decisions
The musician maintained that Nigeria’s economic and developmental difficulties did not begin recently but were partly the result of decisions made years ago.
According to him:
“Many of the problems affecting the country today stem from policies and decisions taken in the past. The lack of financial autonomy for local governments has slowed development efforts and deprived communities of essential services.”
He added that empowering local governments remains one of the most important steps toward achieving sustainable economic growth and development.
Calls for Full Local Government Autonomy
Rarara urged Nigerian leaders to strengthen local government administration by granting councils complete control over their finances and operations.
He stated:
“Nigeria must allow local governments to manage their affairs and resources without interference. That is the only way development can truly reach the grassroots.”
The singer’s comments come amid ongoing national conversations about local government autonomy following recent judicial and political debates on the issue.
Kwankwaso Yet to Respond
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his political camp had not issued any official response to Rarara’s allegations.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and former presidential candidate, is currently the running mate to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Political Context
Rarara is widely known for his support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress. Over the years, he has used his music and public appearances to campaign for APC candidates and government policies.
His latest remarks are expected to fuel fresh political debates as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
