South African Celebrities Who Are Living With HIV One of the nations in the world with the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS is South Africa. Unfortunately, despite the fact that numerous awareness campaigns have been launched to guarantee that the public is well-informed about the virus, many people are still uninformed.

Some South African celebrities who are living with HIV have bravely disclosed their status to the world in order to raise awareness and inspire others to find out their status.

Here are a few South African celebrities that are living with HIV and have used their platforms to call for more knowledge of the disease in the nation.

Let’s take a moment to recognize and honor them for their bravery and sterling efforts.

1. Phindile Sithole-Spong

Phindile Sithole was born with the virus 32 years ago, but she didn’t become aware of it until she was 19 years old.

Her life was altered by learning and disclosing her status. She lost friends, even her boyfriend left her after dating him for two months. It was a very difficult period for her.

Phindile overcame this first obstacle, though, and today uses her 2012-founded HIV consultancy firm, Rebranding HIV, to advocate for HIV awareness.

In addition, Phindile has spoken as a guest at the World Aids Conference in Washington and is a member of the AIDS Consortium Board of Directors.

She is married and has one child, so her personal life is also going well.

2. Brown Saidy

Another famous South African who is HIV positive and calls herself an “HIVIctor” is this curvy lady with one of the world’s brightest smiles.

In 2017, she was awarded the Red Ribbon Foundation Youth For Change HIV/AIDS Activist Award, and has continued to raise awareness of HIV and mental health.

3. Musa Njoko

Musa Njoko is a well-known gospel singer, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker. She is one of the South African stars with HIV who is also leading a positive life.

The virus was discovered more than twenty years ago, when she had TB.

4. Criselda Dudumashe Kananda

Criselda Kananda is a TV and radio host, content developer, entrepreneur, HIV awareness campaigner, and former nurse.

She is also one of the few well-known South Africans who has battled the virus for a long period.

The mother of three was diagnosed with HIV more than 20 years ago, but she didn’t begin taking ARVs—which she frequently characterized as harmful—until she contracted COVID-19 in 2020.

5. Thabang Sefatsa

Another well-known South African who is HIV positive and quite forthright about it is retired footballer Thabang Sefatsa.

He disclosed his status to the public in 2016, a move he claimed was made to inspire more people, particularly other football players, to undergo testing.

If you know you have never had unprotected sex if you are single, or when you were single, indicate by saying so in the comments section below. Otherwise, remember that getting tested is the only sure way to know your HIV status. Do you know your HIV status? Please share this post to create more awareness about this virus.
