New Twist in Mohbad’s Death Case as Court Prepares Major Decision

Fresh developments have emerged in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, as a Federal High Court in Abuja fixed September 29, 2026, for judgment in a suit seeking a fresh investigation into the circumstances of his passing.

The case, filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, is aimed at compelling the Nigeria Police Force to reopen its probe into the singer’s death, nearly three years after the tragedy sparked nationwide outrage.

Court Fixes Judgment Date

Justice James Omotosho announced September 29 as the date for judgment after listening to submissions from Chief Tunde Falola, counsel to the foundation.

The Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, who were listed as respondents in the suit, were not represented during Thursday’s proceedings.

With no opposition presented before the court, Falola adopted all the processes filed by the foundation and urged the court to grant its requests.

Speaking after the hearing, Falola said the organisation believes the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death require a more comprehensive review.

He maintained that the suit was not intended to target any individual but to ensure that all unresolved issues are thoroughly examined.

Court Rejects Bid to Join Suit

The court also ruled on an application filed by Samson Obaboye, who sought to be joined as a party in the case.

Obaboye argued that he supported calls for transparency and accountability and wished to present relevant facts before the court.

However, Justice Omotosho dismissed the application, holding that the applicant failed to establish sufficient legal interest in the matter.

As a result, the focus of the case remains solely on the foundation’s request for a fresh investigation.

Case Reignites Public Interest

The latest court proceedings have once again reignited public conversations about Mohbad’s death, with many fans and supporters insisting that crucial aspects of the case remain unresolved.
