Food poisoning happens when you eat food that has been contaminated with harmful bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Raw meat and poultry are among the most dangerous foods to eat uncooked. Beef, chicken, and pork can carry bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Campylobacter. These germs are usually killed when food is fully cooked, but if meat is eaten raw or undercooked, it can lead to stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and even fever.

Raw eggs are another common source of infection. They can contain Salmonella both inside and on the shell. This is why foods like homemade mayonnaise, raw cookie dough, or sauces made with uncooked eggs can be risky if not handled properly.

Raw or undercooked seafood can also cause problems. Fish and shellfish may carry parasites or bacteria, especially if they come from polluted water or are not stored properly. Eating them raw increases the chances of stomach infections and foodborne illness.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are healthy, but if they are not washed well, they can carry dirt, chemicals, or germs from soil and water. Eating them without cleaning can sometimes lead to stomach upset or infections.

Unpasteurized milk and dairy products are also unsafe. Without pasteurization, harmful bacteria like Listeria or E. coli can remain in the milk. This can be especially dangerous for children, pregnant women, and people with weak immunity.

Sprouts such as bean or alfalfa sprouts are another food that can carry bacteria when eaten raw. They grow in warm, moist conditions where germs can multiply quickly if hygiene is poor.

In simple terms, many foods that seem fresh and natural can still be unsafe when eaten raw. Cooking, washing, and proper food handling make a big difference. Taking these small precautions helps prevent food poisoning and keeps your stomach healthy and safe.
