According to a report from his official X account on Saturday, April 25, Apostle Chinyere Chibuzor Gift, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries, has broken his silence on why he refused to keep a baby boy who was dumped at his gate.
The cleric handed the child over to the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare on Friday, and he is now revealing the real reason behind that decision.
According to the pastor, when he first found the abandoned boy, the toddler was in a terrible state, smelling offensive and looking unkempt. He quickly ordered his staff to buy fresh clothes and basic necessities for the child.
But despite his compassion, Chinyere said he could not admit the boy into his facility.
Why? The pastor explained that his ministry is currently undergoing official registration with the relevant authorities. Until that process is completed by his lawyers, it would be unlawful for him to take in any additional children.
“I cannot accept any child dumped at my gate,” he stated firmly, citing legal advice from his counsel and relevant institutions.
He noted that his home already caters to over 500 children, which makes strict compliance with child welfare regulations even more critical.
The cleric confirmed that the police were also informed about the incident before the Ministry of Social Welfare stepped in. He expressed deep gratitude to the ministry for their prompt response and for taking responsibility for the stranded toddler.
“Happening now, Ministry of Social Welfare just arrived my house to pick up the little boy abandoned at my gate,” he wrote on his X handle earlier.
Apostle Chinyere praised the ministry for their great work in helping vulnerable children, emphasizing that following the law must come first—even when the heart wants to say yes.
