The exodus from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has turned into a flood.

Just 24 hours after former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege walked out of the party, another political heavyweight has followed suit — Victor Ochei, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.

‘Deep Reflections and Wide Consultations’

Ochei announced his resignation in a statement issued on Thursday and published by Guardian Newspapers, saying the decision followed “deep reflections and wide consultations” and was driven by his desire to continue his political journey elsewhere.

The former Speaker said he joined the APC in 2016 with a strong belief in the party’s vision and worked over the years to strengthen its structures and expand its influence across communities in Delta State.

According to him, he and other party loyalists contributed significantly to building the party’s grassroots presence, mobilising support and promoting political participation among youths and women.

Leadership Must Evolve

Ochei noted that leadership and political institutions must continue to evolve in line with the aspirations of the people, adding that his decision to leave the party was informed by the need for broader growth and inclusion.

He stressed that his resignation was not motivated by bitterness or hostility towards any individual within the party, but by his commitment to service, progress and the political future he envisions for the people.

Gratitude, Not Grudges

The former Speaker also expressed appreciation to supporters, stakeholders and party members who stood by him during his time in the APC, describing their loyalty and trust as invaluable.

He urged his supporters and political associates to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals as he begins a new phase in his political career.

Ochei’s Full Statement:

“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment, or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress, and the political future I envision for our people.

“I remain grateful to the many loyal supporters, leaders, stakeholders, and party members who stood with me throughout this journey. Your friendship, trust, and dedication will always be appreciated and remembered.

“As I move forward to continue my political journey from the APC, I do so with hope, renewed determination, and faith in the future. I urge all my supporters and associates to remain peaceful, focused, and committed to the democratic ideals we all share.”

Delta APC in Freefall

With two major defections in 24 hours, the APC in Delta State is bleeding badly. Political observers are now asking: who will be next?
