While most couples dream of a fairytale ending with their other half, things don’t always go to plan – as one newlywed discovered in the most devastating of circumstances, when her husband walked out just 24 hours after exchanging vows in front of their nearest and dearest. The bride’s cousin shared the shocking tale, recounting how she witnessed the lavish nuptials of two childhood sweethearts in their mid-20s, and how their so-called “love story” has since become a cautionary tale among those who know them.
Responding to the question, “People who left their partner the day of the wedding, what happened?” on Reddit, she said: “Unfortunately, the one I know of was the day after the wedding.
“Huge, beautiful wedding, 250+ guests, mid-20s college sweethearts, parents were in the same social circle in their Southern town. They were religious, so a big deal was made that they ‘waited’.”
Yet the fairy tale came crashing down almost immediately.
No sooner had the couple set off for their honeymoon than the groom turned to his bride and coldly announced, “This was a mistake.” The cousin added, “He then completely shut down and didn’t talk to her.
“They landed in Tahiti, she flew back on the next flight home, and the story goes he stayed in their honeymoon suite and slept with a number of different women.

“Then, a month later, he came crawling back, but she was too humiliated. She had spent the last month returning wedding gifts, writing thank-you notes, and dealing with the fallout while he partied.”
When he finally came back, he allegedly provided several justifications for his actions, claiming he “wasn’t ready” and “felt pressured”.
She added: “They got an annulment and now apparently it’s super awkward at alumni events.
“She’s now married with three beautiful kids, so I guess he made room for the right person in her life.
“You never know what goes on behind closed doors. What looks perfect from the outside can be totally different for the people in the relationship.”
Commenting on the post, one user said: “Did he ever get married again?”
Another added: “As a teenager I was taught they were the image of perfection, but as an adult I know that was all hyper-religious bull****!”
A third user wrote: “That never looked ‘perfect’. They hadn’t lived much, hadn’t dated others, hadn’t been adults long, hadn’t had intercourse. Of course he was curious about what else was out there.”
