Dramatic footage circulating on social media captures a tense and chaotic confrontation outside the Federal High Court in Abuja, where security personnel clashed with members of activist and political figure Omoyele Sowore’s entourage.
The video, originally shared by popular Nigerian news aggregator Metro Naija, shows a determined crowd pushing to gain entry as security forces attempt to block them. The approximately three-minute clip, filmed by onlookers and broadcast with a News Century Television watermark, happened when Sowore appeared at the Federal High Court for a scheduled ruling on his “no-case submission” in an ongoing cybercrime trial instituted by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The activist and Sahara Reporters publisher faces a two-count charge related to a social media post he made on August 25, in which he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.” The remark was in response to Tinubu’s statement during a trip to Brazil claiming that corruption had been eradicated under his administration. Sowore’s legal team filed the no-case submission on April 21, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case warranting his defense.
