Breaking: GHANA JUST ARRESTED NIGERIAN GIRLS FOR PROSTITUTION. BUT THE REAL QUESTION AFRICA IS AFRAID TO ASK IS WHY.

This story is not about Ghana. And it is not really about Nigeria either.

It is about what happens when a continent’s economy fails its women so completely that survival becomes indistinguishable from exploitation.

Reports are emerging of Nigerian girls being arrested in Ghana on prostitution charges. And before the moral outrage drowns out the deeper conversation, let us be honest about something most Africans refuse to say out loud:

No woman wakes up dreaming of this life.

Nigeria is a country of over 200 million people sitting on some of the world’s most valuable oil reserves. Yet poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and systemic failure have pushea millions of its citizens, particularly its young women, into some of the most desperate corners of the continent and beyond.

When you see a Nigerian woman selling her body in Accra, Nairobi, Johannesburg, or Beirut, you are not seeing a moral failure. You are seeing the end product of decades of corruption, economic exclusion, and a patriarchal system that has never once been held accountable for what it costs women.

Arresting them does not solve anything. It never has.

The question Africa needs to ask is not “why are they here?” The question is: “Who built the conditions that sent them here?”
