The Oyo State Government has participated in a special prayer session organised by the Ibadan Labala Masquerades Group for the safe return of victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

The prayer and traditional rites were held at the Labala Shrine in the Labo area of Ibadan and received the approval of the President of the Labala Masquerades Group Worldwide, Chief Ojeyemi Ajayi, popularly known as Idunnu Ifa.

According to Punch, the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the government joined the exercise to support efforts aimed at securing the release of the kidnapped victims and restoring peace and security across the state.

“The essence of the gathering was to offer traditional prayers and sacrifices on behalf of the state for the safe return of the abductees and for lasting peace under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde,” the statement said.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism was represented at the event by the General Manager of the Oyo State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Kunle Agboola.

Speaking during the gathering, Agboola commended the Labala Masquerades Group for demonstrating patriotism and concern for the welfare of the victims and the state.

He noted that several organisations and religious groups had held prayer sessions since the abduction occurred, but described the masquerade group’s initiative as a unique effort that reflected strong community support for the government’s rescue mission.

“Thank you for partnering with the government during this difficult period. We believe the prayers and sacrifices offered today will yield positive results and that the abductees will soon reunite with their families,” Agboola said.

He further praised the group’s compassion and commitment to peace, describing the event as an example of how communities can work alongside government in times of crisis.

The prayer session comes amid growing public concern over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. Security agencies continue efforts to secure the release of the victims, while various groups across the state have intensified prayers and advocacy for their safe return.

The Oyo State Government has repeatedly assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the abductees are rescued and reunited with their families.
