A former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” has been killed alongside her security guard in what authorities suspect was a deadly attack on her residence in Ogun State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday at her home in the Agodo community along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.

The deaths have sent shockwaves through media circles, religious communities, and residents of the area, where the retired broadcaster was widely respected.

Church Members Discover Tragedy

According to sources familiar with the incident, concerns arose after Oyesiku failed to attend church services on Sunday.

Church members reportedly visited her residence to check on her welfare and made the disturbing discovery.

A community source told reporters:

“They had come around to check on Mrs Oyesiku when they did not see her in church. On getting to her residence, they found that the security officer had been killed. They later discovered that Mrs Oyesiku had also been murdered. That was when they raised the alarm in the community.”

Residents said the discovery triggered panic in the neighbourhood as news of the incident spread.

Bodies Deposited in Morgue

The remains of the late broadcaster and her security guard were evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of death or whether valuables were taken from the residence.

Investigators are expected to examine the scene and gather forensic evidence as part of efforts to determine the motive behind the attack.

Police Confirm Incident

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident and said investigations had commenced.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, acknowledged the killings and assured residents that detectives were working to uncover those responsible.

“The command is aware of the incident and investigations have commenced. An official statement will be released as soon as more details are established,” Babaseyi said.

Police authorities have not announced any arrests as of the time of filing this report.

Media Community in Mourning

Oyesiku was well known within broadcasting circles following her years of service with Ogun State Television before her retirement.

Former colleagues described her as a dedicated professional who contributed significantly to public broadcasting in Ogun State.

A former colleague who worked with her at OGTV said:

“Aunty Kitan was passionate about journalism and public service. Her death is a painful loss to everyone who knew her.”

Another retired broadcaster added:

“She was a mentor to many younger journalists. This tragedy has left many of us heartbroken.”

Calls for Justice

Community leaders and residents have called on security agencies to ensure that those behind the killings are identified and prosecuted.

A resident of the Agodo area said:

“This is a disturbing development. We want the police to get to the root of the matter and ensure justice is served.”

The incident adds to growing concerns over security in some communities across the state, with residents urging authorities to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention measures.
