Eyewitnesses said the incident began when a self-proclaimed “matatu pastor” stood up during the journey and began preaching loudly, delivering what he described as a Christian message to fellow commuters. While a section of passengers remained indifferent, others reportedly appeared uncomfortable with the volume and intensity of the sermon inside the confined space.
The situation took a sharper turn when a young Gen Z passenger, described by those present as confident and outspoken, challenged the preacher. She demanded that he lower his voice and respect the fact that the matatu was a public transport vehicle, not a place of worship.
According to passengers, she expressed her frustration in a fluent and expressive manner that quickly caught attention inside the vehicle. Her argument centered on the idea that while individuals have the right to express their beliefs, such expression must not inconvenience others in a shared environment.
