A cloud of anguish hangs over the Sebokeng community as the family of 42-year-old Mpule Moamohe pleads with the public for any information that could lead to her safe return. The mother of young children has been missing since Thursday, when she left her home at 11394 Vena Street, Zone 7B, Sebokeng, to withdraw her children’s SASSA grant at Evaton Mall.
According to her distraught sister, Made, Mpule was last seen wearing a peach Puma dress with white writing—a detail the family hopes will jog the memory of anyone who may have crossed her path that day. She told relatives she was heading to the mall to collect the social grant money essential for her children’s upkeep. That was the last time anyone heard from her.
“She never came back,” Made said, her voice breaking. “We have been calling her phone, but it goes straight to voicemail. We have gone to the mall ourselves, asked shopkeepers, checked with security guards. No one remembers seeing her. It is like she vanished into thin air.”
The family has since opened a missing persons case at the Evaton police station, but they say the wait for answers has been agonizing. “The police are doing their work, but we cannot just sit and wait. We need the public’s eyes and ears. Someone must have seen something,” Made added.
Community members have begun sharing the missing person alert on social media, but the family is urging people to go further—to check their neighborhoods, to recall any unusual activity on Thursday, to think back if they noticed a woman matching Mpule’s description acting confused, distressed, or in the company of strangers.
Mpule is described as a devoted mother who would never voluntarily abandon her children. Her sudden disappearance is completely out of character, her sister emphasized. “She loves those children more than anything. She would never just disappear without telling them where she is going or without making sure they are taken care of. Something is terribly wrong.”
The family has also expressed concern about the SASSA grant collection process itself, noting that many women in the area have reported feeling unsafe when withdrawing cash from busy malls, where criminal elements often lurk, watching for vulnerable targets.
Anyone with information—no matter how small or seemingly insignificant—is urged to contact Made immediately on 071 718 3127 or 065 255 9952. Alternatively, tip-offs can be directed to the Evaton police station. The family has also shared a link with further updates: https://x.com/i/status/2046684861721678126
“We are begging you. If you know something, please speak up. Mpule’s children need their mother back home,” Made pleaded. As the hours turn into days, the family holds onto hope while bracing for the worst, praying that someone, somewhere, holds the key to bringing Mpule Moamohe home safely.
