Dropping your phone into water is every smartphone owner’s nightmare. That sinking feeling in your stomach is real—but before you reach for a hairdryer or the sun, take a deep breath. Acting smart, not fast, can save your device. Here’s what to do.

1. Grab it Quickly

The faster you act, the better the chances of saving it. Pull your phone out immediately and turn it off. Pressing buttons or leaving it on can push water deeper inside and fry the circuits.

2. Remove Everything You Can

Take off the case, remove your SIM and memory card, and unplug headphones. Every layer you remove helps the phone dry faster.

3. Pat It Dry, Don’t Rub

Use a soft towel or cloth to gently blot away water. Rubbing can push liquid into tiny openings, making things worse.

4. Skip the Hairdryer Heat

It might be tempting to blow-dry it, but heat can warp the phone’s components. A small vacuum or gentle air can help instead.

5. Use Silica Gel—or Rice in a Pinch

Place the phone in a container with silica gel packets. If you don’t have them, uncooked rice can work. These absorb moisture and give your phone a fighting chance.

6. Be Patient

Leave your phone off for at least 24–48 hours. Turning it on too soon is the quickest way to kill it.

7. Test Carefully

After waiting, reinsert your battery (if removable), SIM, and memory card. Power it on gently and see if it responds.

8. Get Expert Help if Needed

If it still acts weird, take it to a repair professional. A quick expert intervention can save parts that might otherwise be ruined.

Water accidents are stressful, but calm, careful steps are often all you need. Treat your phone gently, be patient, and you might just rescue it without a trip to the store.
