Is Your County on the List? Kenya Met Names 35 Counties Set for Rainfall in the Next 24 Hours

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast rainfall in 35 counties and warned that cold conditions will persist in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

According to the weather outlook covering the period from 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, most parts of Kenya will experience generally dry weather.

However, several regions are expected to receive showers and thunderstorms, while others will face chilly conditions.

The department said residents in parts of the Highlands, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the southeastern lowlands should prepare for rainfall.

Some areas in the Highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley are also expected to experience cloudy and cold conditions.

In Nairobi and neighbouring counties, including Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi County, the night will remain partly cloudy.

Sunday morning is expected to begin with cloudy skies before giving way to sunny intervals, while a few places could receive light afternoon showers.

The most active weather is expected across counties in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin. These include Kakamega, Kisumu, Bungoma, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Nakuru, Bomet, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo.

Residents should expect showers and thunderstorms tonight, followed by sunny breaks in the morning before rainfall returns later in the day.

Turkana and Samburu counties are likely to record isolated light showers tonight before sunny weather dominates most of Sunday. Light rainfall may also occur near the South Sudan border during the morning hours.

Meanwhile, strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected in parts of Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Makueni, Kitui, and across all coastal counties.

At the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River, residents should expect partly cloudy conditions overnight, sunny intervals during the day, and a slight chance of light morning showers.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised the public to stay updated on weather forecasts and take the necessary precautions, especially in areas expected to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and cold conditions.
