The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said many voters in northern Nigeria are becoming increasingly disillusioned with President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party figure Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a television interview on Trust TV, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Mohammed-Baba, argued that worsening insecurity and economic hardship have weakened public confidence in the country’s political leaders.

According to him, many northern voters are no longer satisfied with the current political options available.

“The average northern voter is disillusioned and has been for a long time,” he said.

Tinubu, Atiku, Obi criticised

Mohammed-Baba said President Tinubu’s administration has failed to meet expectations, particularly in addressing security challenges and economic difficulties affecting ordinary Nigerians.

He stated that the impact of government policies on citizens has been disappointing, adding that many people are struggling under current economic conditions.

The ACF spokesperson also questioned whether Atiku Abubakar offers a clear alternative to the current administration.

He argued that merely criticising the government is not enough, stressing that opposition figures must present practical solutions and a convincing policy direction.

On Peter Obi, Mohammed-Baba said shifting political alliances and political realignments have weakened trust in his candidacy among some northern voters.

Call for credible leadership

The forum warned that continued insecurity and economic hardship could push more communities toward self-help measures, describing such a trend as dangerous for national stability.

Mohammed-Baba stressed that no single region can determine the outcome of a presidential election and noted that Nigerians would ultimately focus on competence and credible leadership rather than political sentiment.

He added that voters are searching for leaders capable of addressing the country’s pressing challenges and improving living conditions.

“Is there anybody offering an alternative now? I don’t see anything,” he said.

The comments come as political parties and major stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over alliances, candidates, and policy alternatives already gathering momentum across the country.
