Man Allegedly Killed His Own Mother After She Told Him There Was No Electricity to Cook For Him

A 40-year-old man from KwaNongoma in KwaZulu-Natal is being sought by police after he was accused of carrying out a horrific attack that allegedly claimed the life of his own mother following an argument over supper.

According to reports, the man, identified as Mcebise Khumalo, who is also known by the nickname “Lovers,” arrived at his family home during the evening expecting to find a meal prepared. Upon discovering that no food had been cooked, he allegedly questioned his mother and demanded an explanation.

His mother reportedly told him that there had been no electricity throughout the day in their village, making it impossible for her to prepare supper in the usual way. She allegedly explained the circumstances, hoping he would understand the situation.

However, reports claim that Khumalo became extremely angry and insisted that food should still have been prepared. He allegedly questioned why she had not used firewood to cook despite the power outage. The disagreement is said to have escalated rapidly, turning into a violent confrontation inside the home.

Authorities allege that during the argument, Khumalo picked up an axe and attacked his mother, inflicting fatal injuries. The incident reportedly shocked nearby residents, who were unable to believe what had unfolded.

Reports further claim that after the attack, he allegedly set his mother’s body alight in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence before fleeing the scene. Neighbours who reportedly witnessed parts of the incident immediately raised the alarm and attempted to pursue him, but he managed to escape before they could stop him.

Police have since launched a manhunt to locate the suspect, who remains at large. Investigators are appealing to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station. The tragic incident has left the local community devastated, with many expressing disbelief that such violence could allegedly occur within a family over a dispute involving food.
