In a story that has drawn emotion across his community, an elderly Kenyan man has returned home after spending nearly six decades in Uganda, where he had gone in search of work in 1965. What was meant to be a short journey turned into a lifetime of struggle and uncertainty, eventually ending with his return home empty-handed.

The man explained that he left his rural home with hopes of finding employment opportunities across the border, as was common during that period. However, years turned into decades as he moved from place to place in Uganda, surviving on odd jobs but never achieving the stability he had envisioned. Over time, communication with his family faded, and he eventually lost touch with his roots.

After sixty years away, he made the difficult decision to return to Kenya, hoping at least to reconnect with his past and family. Instead, he was met with a painful reality. His former home had changed, and so had the people he left behind.“I arrived back home in Kenya and found my wife married with children. I wonder why she didn’t wait for me,” he said.

According to him, the discovery left him deeply shaken, as he had always believed he would one day reunite with his wife. The passage of time, however, had rewritten their lives in different directions, leaving him to confront the consequences of his long absence.

Now elderly and without resources, he is slowly adjusting to life back in Kenya while reflecting on the choices and hardships that defined his journey. His story highlights the emotional cost of migration, separation, and the unpredictable paths that life can take over many decades. His return has sparked reflection among villagers about migration, family separation, and the importance of staying connected with loved ones over.
