Nigerian troops have recorded another significant victory in the fight against banditry, overrunning a bandits’ camp in Kogi State and successfully rescuing two kidnapped victims.

The operation, carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under Operation 777, demonstrated improved coordination and intelligence-led tactics in tackling criminal elements in the North-Central region.

The Operation

According to Daily Trust, the troops stormed a well-established bandit hideout in the forested areas of Kogi State. The bandits, who had been terrorising communities through kidnapping and cattle rustling, were caught off guard by the swift military action.

In the ensuing confrontation, the troops overpowered the criminals, forcing them to abandon their camp and flee into the surrounding bushes. During the raid, two kidnapped victims were rescued alive from the bandits’ den. The victims were immediately evacuated and are currently receiving medical attention.

Tactical Success

The success of the operation highlights the growing effectiveness of the military’s sustained offensive against bandit groups operating outside the traditional North-East and North-West theatres. Troops have increasingly relied on credible intelligence, local collaboration, and rapid deployment to dismantle criminal camps before they become too entrenched.

This latest achievement adds to a string of recent gains recorded by the Nigerian Army in various parts of the country, boosting morale among personnel and restoring confidence among residents in affected communities.

Relief for Families

The rescue of the two victims has brought immense relief to their families, who had been living in fear since the abduction. Many residents in the area have commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism during the operation.

Security sources say follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing bandits and prevent them from regrouping in nearby forests.

Renewed Hope in the Fight Against Insecurity

This development comes at a time when Nigerians are demanding more decisive action against banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality. The successful raid in Kogi State serves as further proof that sustained military pressure is yielding positive results.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security across all parts of the country, assuring citizens that no effort will be spared in the ongoing war against criminal elements.
