Online scams are everywhere, but the scams are getting more intricate or complex for the average person. Here’s the new Capitec scam that thieves use to take your money.
There’s an online application that claims to be affiliated with Takealot, and is prompting users to deposit money into the application in order to generate passive revenue from completing tasks.
The tasks are made to seem like Takealot is sending them to users, after completion the owners offer an incentive as a reward – usually below R10.
The previous scam was similar, but was based on in-app purchases, that were opted into without the users permission.

The new scam appears as a new way of making money online. The tasks are fake, and there’s no money being generated from completing the tasks as confirmed by Takealot.
Takealot said it is not affiliated with the said company, which is named TK Online (Takealot Online).
The first giveaway that this is a scam, is that the app claims to be affiliated with Amazon too.
The second giveaway is that the owners don’t reveal how the money is being generated from completing the tasks. For example, the app didn’t say where the money comes from.
Be careful, these scammers are getting smarter and clever.
Their trick is that they first add you into a WhatsApp group, telling you that you won’t pay a cent to start making money. However, that isn’t true and most of the time the users find that out later. Then, the owners require a deposit for you to further make more money through the app, which saw a lot of people depositing their life savings.
After they’ve convinced you to deposit, the scammers then delete the WhatsApp group and disable the application, running away with your hard earned money.
