“Oyo school attack”: VDM sends urgent message to Tinubu over kidnapper’s sole demand

Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security authorities to urgently consider the demands of kidnappers holding dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

His appeal followed the emergence of a new video showing some of the victims still in captivity more than three weeks after they were abducted.

The incident, which occurred on May 15, 2026, has continued to generate concern across the country as families anxiously await the safe return of their loved ones.

Principal Speaks From Captivity

VDM’s appeal came after a video surfaced featuring Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, who spoke from captivity.

In the video, she pleaded for urgent intervention and called on authorities to engage the kidnappers in dialogue. According to her, several reports about the abductors’ demands were inaccurate.

She stated that contrary to widespread speculation, the kidnappers were not demanding money, weapons, or the implementation of Sharia law. Instead, she claimed they were requesting the release of certain individuals currently being held in correctional facilities.

VDM Appeals to Tinubu

Reacting to the video, VDM urged President Tinubu and security chiefs to carefully consider the captives’ plea and explore all possible options that could lead to their safe release.

According to him, the lives of innocent children and teachers should remain the highest priority.

He wrote:

“For the sake of those poor innocent children, please President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all service chiefs, consider the request and let those kids return to their parents.”

Details of the Abduction

The mass abduction reportedly took place when heavily armed gunmen invaded three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State during a coordinated morning attack.

The affected schools include:

Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle

Baptist Nursery and Primary School

L.A. Primary School

Reports indicate that 46 people were abducted, including 39 pupils and students, some as young as two years old, as well as seven teachers.

Public concern intensified after reports emerged that a mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was allegedly killed while in captivity. Another teacher was also reportedly killed during the attack.

Growing Calls for Action

The latest video from captivity has reignited public concern over the prolonged detention of the victims. While some Nigerians support negotiations to secure their release, others believe authorities should remain cautious when responding to the kidnappers’ demands.
