Sad End as Flooding Claims Life of Young Lady in Kaduna (Photo)
Tragedy struck Zaria in Kaduna State on Tuesday when severe flooding claimed the life of a young lady identified as Fatim near Gaskia Tudun Jukun.
The incident occurred during heavy rainfall as Fatim was riding on a motorcycle while carrying her young niece on her back. Eyewitnesses reported that the rider attempted to cross a flooded culvert but misjudged the depth of the water-filled canal, causing both Fatim and the child to fall into the raging waters.
A brave young boy who saw the accident immediately jumped into the culvert to rescue them, but Fatim drowned. Her body was recovered the next day, while the little girl is still missing. Circulating photos on social media, including a touching portrait of Fatim in a white hijab smiling while holding a phone and some money with bold “R.I.P” text overlaid, have intensified the outpouring of grief across Kaduna and beyond.
The funeral prayer for Fatim is set to hold after Asr at 4pm today at Alhaji Danmarke’s home. The heartbreaking incident has prompted renewed calls for the Kaduna State government under Governor Uba Sani to urgently tackle recurrent flooding and protect lives and property in vulnerable areas. Residents and sympathizers continue to extend condolences, praying for mercy on the deceased.
