Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with medical experts warning that many people ignore early symptoms until serious complications develop. Cardiologists say recognizing warning signs early can help patients receive treatment before conditions become life-threatening.

According to health experts, heart failure occurs when the heart becomes too weak or damaged to pump blood efficiently throughout the body. This may result from high blood pressure, blocked arteries, heart valve problems, infections, or genetic conditions. When the heart struggles to function properly, the body may begin showing several noticeable symptoms.

One of the most common warning signs is shortness of breath. Doctors explain that people with heart problems may experience difficulty breathing during physical activity, while resting, or even when lying down to sleep. In severe cases, patients may wake up suddenly during the night feeling breathless or uncomfortable. This symptom often occurs because fluid builds up in the lungs when the heart cannot pump blood effectively.

Persistent coughing or wheezing may also signal underlying heart trouble. Medical professionals say coughing that produces white or pink mucus can sometimes be linked to fluid accumulation in the lungs, especially in patients with advanced heart failure.

Another major symptom is unusual tiredness or weakness. People with weakened heart function may feel exhausted even after minimal activity because the heart cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to muscles and organs. Experts say this fatigue can interfere with daily tasks and reduce quality of life.

Pain or discomfort in the legs may also indicate circulation problems connected to heart disease. Reduced blood flow in the arteries can cause leg cramps, difficulty walking, numbness, or pain during movement. Doctors warn that these symptoms may point to peripheral artery disease, which is often associated with cardiovascular problems.

Health experts encourage people not to ignore chest discomfort, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, swelling in the feet, or ongoing fatigue. They stress that early diagnosis and lifestyle changes can greatly improve heart health and reduce complications.

Medical professionals recommend regular exercise, healthy eating, reducing salt intake, avoiding smoking, managing stress, and attending routine medical check-ups to maintain cardiovascular health.

Doctors continue to advise the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience severe chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, or other serious symptoms linked to heart disease.
