President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s security and economic challenges, declaring that the country will not surrender to terrorism, banditry, or any form of criminal intimidation.

The message was delivered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during a national inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking Democracy Day.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Akume said Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance reflected the sacrifices and resilience of citizens and pro-democracy activists who fought for the return of civil rule.

He paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12 struggle, noting that many endured imprisonment, persecution, and even lost their lives in defence of democracy.

FG Promises Relief Amid Economic Hardship

Akume acknowledged the economic difficulties and insecurity facing parts of the country, stating that the Tinubu administration is aware of the concerns of Nigerians and is implementing policies aimed at easing hardship and improving living standards.

According to him, the government remains committed to delivering democratic dividends and restoring public confidence through reforms across various sectors.

Security Remains a Top Priority

The SGF stressed that protecting lives and restoring peace remain central objectives of the federal government. He noted that security agencies are being strengthened to combat threats across the country and secure the release of kidnapped victims.

He stated:

“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation.”

Call for Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections

With political activities gradually gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Akume urged Nigerians to reject violence and divisive rhetoric.

He called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and the media to promote peace, unity, and national cohesion.
