A senior police officer based in has come under intense scrutiny after allegations of misconduct, abuse of authority, and inappropriate behaviour involving a junior colleague triggered an internal investigation within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The controversy erupted after a video allegedly showing the senior officer and a subordinate engaging in sexual activity while dressed in official police uniforms surfaced online. The footage has since circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism from members of the public and raising concerns about discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct within SAPS.

According to reports linked to the matter, the officer at the centre of the allegations is attached to operations at Algoa Park police station. Authorities reportedly acted swiftly following the emergence of the footage and an anonymous whistleblower complaint that alleged broader workplace irregularities at the station.

Sources familiar with the investigation indicated that a commander from Motherwell police station has been tasked with overseeing the inquiry. Preliminary discussions are believed to have already taken place with both the accused colonel and the woman sergeant allegedly involved in the incident.

In addition to the explicit video allegations, the whistleblower complaint reportedly contains claims of intimidation, favouritism, and abuse of power within the station. These accusations have intensified concerns regarding the leadership environment and workplace culture at Algoa Park police station.

Police spokesperson confirmed that complaints connected to the matter are under investigation but declined to provide further details.

“The complaints are under investigation,” Gantana said.

As investigations continue, SAPS is expected to determine whether disciplinary action or further legal processes may be necessary. The outcome of the inquiry could have broader implications for public confidence and institutional accountability within police leadership in the Eastern Cape.
