A Kenyan woman has sparked online discussion after exposing her househelp, who allegedly stole money and clothes before disappearing from her home.
The woman shared CCTV footage on social media, claiming the domestic worker, identified as Ruth, vanished after allegedly engaging in suspicious activities inside the house.
According to the employer, the househelp allegedly stole money and personal belongings before leaving without notice. The woman claimed the incident left her counting significant losses.
In one CCTV clip, the househelp was allegedly seen entering the living room and taking money from a table believed to belong to her employer.
Another video reportedly showed her leaving the house carrying a heavily packed backpack and additional bags. The employer claimed the bags contained stolen clothes and other household items.
The woman said the househelp arrived at her home with only a backpack but later left with several bags filled with belongings she suspected had been stolen.
She further claimed that some of the allegedly stolen clothes later appeared in TikTok videos shared on the househelp’s account.
Through emotional social media posts, the employer appealed to the public for help in locating the househelp. She said she hoped to recover the missing items and understand why the worker disappeared suddenly.
The employer also shared more footage, claiming it showed what the househelp allegedly did while she was away.
Some clips reportedly captured the worker relaxing on the couch, watching videos and practising dance moves believed to be for TikTok content.
The incident has attracted mixed reactions online. While some social media users sympathised with the employer, others raised concerns about privacy and the use of CCTV cameras in homes.
In a separate case, a Nairobi househelp recently opened up about feeling humiliated after discovering that her employer had secretly monitored her using CCTV cameras.
The former worker claimed she only learned about the recordings after leaving the job when her former employer allegedly shared the footage with her.
The incident has reignited conversations about trust, privacy and accountability in employer-househelp relationships.
