According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Monday, May 11, 2026, Emmanuel Odiniya, the father of former Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has publicly spoken about the recent altercation involving him and his daughter at their residence in Abuja.
The incident attracted widespread attention online over the weekend after reports emerged that the disagreement between both parties became physical.
Discussions about the matter increased after audio recordings and reactions began circulating across social media platforms, drawing public focus to the family dispute and the events surrounding the confrontation.
In a voice recording reportedly shared online by journalist Jeremiah Ocheme, Emmanuel Odiniya explained that the conflict did not come from hatred toward his daughter but from years of unresolved tension within the family.
According to him, their relationship became strained after Ilebaye rose to fame following her victory in the 2023 edition of the reality television programme.
He stated that he had strongly supported her during the competition and made efforts to mobilise support for her while she was still in the house.
He claimed that after her success and growing popularity, communication and understanding between them gradually became more difficult.
Odiniya also alleged that he felt abandoned during periods when he was dealing with health challenges.
According to him, he expected more support and attention from his daughter because of the sacrifices he believed he made for her career and public success.
He further claimed that some decisions and lifestyle changes made by the reality television star after gaining fame became a source of disagreement between them.
Among the issues he reportedly criticised were some of her personal lifestyle choices, including cosmetic procedures, which he suggested contributed to tensions within the family relationship.
The father also made allegations about previous confrontations between him and his daughter before the latest incident became public.
He claimed there had been earlier occasions where arguments between them allegedly turned physical.
According to his account in the voice recording, he accused Ilebaye of physically attacking him during a past disagreement and described an incident involving an object that allegedly caused him injuries.
These claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no official public response from Ilebaye addressing the specific allegations made by her father regarding previous confrontations.
He said, “She has hit me twice, and I didn’t do anything to her. One day she took an AC hanger and hit me with it till blood started gushing out of my body.”
