Kenneth Okonkwo, a former ally and kinsman of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has released screenshots of alleged chats with Obunike Ohaegbu, an aspirant for the Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency during the party’s recently concluded primaries.
According to the screenshots shared by Okonkwo, Ohaegbu alleged that he was scammed by the party and claimed that Obi was aware of money allegedly collected from him and other aspirants.

The development comes in response to a legal threat reportedly issued by Obi through his lawyer, Alex Ejesieme. In a pre-action letter, Obi accused Okonkwo of making false and defamatory statements during an appearance on Channels Television on June 8, 2026.
Obi is said to be seeking damages over the allegations made against him by his former political associate.
Okonkwo and Obi were political allies during the 2023 presidential election when Okonkwo served as Obi’s spokesperson under the Labour Party.
The two politicians later joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, Obi subsequently left the ADC for the NDC to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition, while Okonkwo remained in the ADC and became a supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The dispute between the two former allies has continued to generate attention following the lawsuit threat and the release of the alleged chat messages.
Wike Mocks Peter Obi
In a related development, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike recently criticised Peter Obi, questioning his political consistency.
Wike argued that leadership requires courage and the ability to confront challenges directly. He referenced Obi’s movement across several political parties, including APGA, PDP, Labour Party, ADC, and most recently the NDC, as part of his criticism.
The minister made the remarks during an interview on June 1, 2026.
