During a recent appearance on Channels Television, security consultant Bulama Bukarti stated that security agencies are aware of the gang allegedly responsible for kidnapping retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, whose death later shocked the nation.
Bukarti said the criminal group was not operating in secrecy and that its areas of influence in Katsina State are already known to security forces. He identified the gang as the Kachalla Muhammed group and questioned why it has continued to operate despite this knowledge.
According to him, the fact that authorities are familiar with the group’s locations yet have not fully neutralized its activities reflects the broader security challenges confronting the country.
Bukarti further explained that many bandit groups have entrenched themselves in remote communities, creating operational bases from which they conduct kidnappings and attacks while avoiding arrest.
He emphasized the need for stronger intelligence-driven strategies and sustained security operations, arguing that effective action must go beyond identifying perpetrators and focus on dismantling their networks and preventing further attacks on vulnerable populations.
