Fresh details have emerged from a late-night meeting between leaders of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting brought together a delegation from the Kwankwasiyya Movement, NDC presidential candidate Senator Seriake Dickson, and other top party officials.

According to a statement signed by NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., discussions centred on resolving internal disagreements between the Kwankwasiyya bloc and legacy NDC members in Kano State.

NDC Moves to Resolve Kano Dispute

The party said the meeting was aimed at promoting unity and ensuring that all stakeholders feel represented within the party structure.

According to the statement:

“Senator Dickson and the NDC leadership are mediating in the process in order to enhance inclusion and participation by every party member.”

The NDC leadership stressed that it remains committed to transparency, fairness and internal democracy as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

No Candidate Imposition, Says NDC

The party also dismissed concerns about alleged plans to impose candidates in Kano State or any other part of the country.

“The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation, as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” the statement added.

Officials described the lengthy meeting as productive and expressed confidence that ongoing consultations would strengthen unity within the party.

Party Denies Releasing Primary Election Results

Meanwhile, the NDC urged members and supporters to ignore reports claiming that results of its primary elections had already been released.

The party clarified that no official primary election results have been announced in any state.

“The NDC has not released any official results of its primary elections in any state.”

Kwankwaso’s Exit Rumours

The meeting comes amid reports that former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was considering leaving the NDC following disagreements over candidate selection in Kano State.

Reports indicated that tensions arose after adjustments were made to candidate lists based on an agreed formula that reportedly allocated 60 percent of positions to the Kwankwasiyya Movement and 40 percent to the existing party structure.

However, the latest meeting appears to be part of efforts by the party leadership to address those concerns and maintain unity ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
