A Southeastern House of Representatives aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ogbunike Ohaegbu, has denied ever telling Kenneth Okonkwo that Peter Obi asked them to pay N10 million each to fund his 2027 presidential campaign.

In a video that surfaced online on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Ohaegbu while appearing on Channels TV clarified that Kenneth Okonkwo lied in his claim. He stated that he never mentioned anything about Peter Obi demanding money from aspirants.

This development comes days after Kenneth Okonkwo alleged that some NDC aspirants were asked to pay N10 million each to support Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition. The allegation had generated massive reactions online, with many calling on Peter Obi to sue Okonkwo for defamation.

The clarification has sparked fresh debates on social media, with many Obi supporters arguing that Okonkwo has been making unfounded allegations against Peter Obi without evidence. Some have also questioned Ohaegbu’s credibility for discussing internal party matters with Okonkwo, who has been a vocal critic of Peter Obi.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Peter Obi nor Kenneth Okonkwo has issued an official response to the latest development.

The controversy continues to generate significant attention online.
