A woman based in Mombasa has opened up about her painful past and the strength it took to rebuild her life after experiencing trauma, illness, and social rejection.

Identified as Nancy Bosibori, also known as Nana, she shared her story during an interview in Bamburi, revealing how her life took a drastic turn at a young age.

💔 A Life-Changing Ordeal at 17

Nana recounted that shortly after finishing high school in 2010, she went through a traumatic experience that changed her life forever.

Following the incident, she was later diagnosed with HIV/AIDS—news that left her emotionally overwhelmed and struggling to cope.

🧠 Battling Emotional Pain and Finding Hope

She revealed that the diagnosis deeply affected her mental health, leading her to attempt suicide multiple times. However, with the support of her family and professional counselling, she gradually began to accept her condition.

Over time, Nana committed to treatment and eventually reached an “undetectable” status—meaning the virus is well-controlled and cannot be transmitted when medication is taken consistently.

This milestone became a turning point, giving her the courage to speak openly and encourage others living with HIV.

❤️ Relationships, Stigma, and Setbacks

Nana later entered a long-term relationship with her child’s father, who was HIV-negative. The couple lived together for several years under medical guidance.

However, the relationship ended in 2020 following personal challenges, including issues that led to her health status being disclosed publicly, exposing her to stigma within her community.

After the breakup, she took time away from relationships to heal emotionally. When she later tried dating again—including online—she faced rejection and discrimination after being open about her status.

⚠️ Facing Fear and Protecting Herself

She also shared a troubling experience during a later encounter, where a man’s behavior made her feel unsafe and pressured her into proving her health status.

Although medical tests confirmed her undetectable condition, the situation reinforced her decision to be more vocal about her reality and to prioritize her safety.

🌟 Choosing Strength and Purpose

Despite everything she has endured, Nana has remained focused on building a better life. She now works as a hairdresser, operating from her home after losing her previous salon to flooding.

She also emphasized her commitment to raising her son with strong values and has chosen to avoid decisions that could compromise her health or future.

🌍 A Message of Courage

Nana’s story is one of resilience, highlighting not only the challenges faced by people living with HIV but also the importance of awareness, compassion, and support.

Her journey serves as a reminder that with proper treatment, emotional support, and determination, it is possible to live a full and meaningful life.
