A political rally by opposition leaders in Taita Taveta County was briefly interrupted on Tuesday after sections of the crowd broke into loud chants calling for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The event, organized by leaders aligned with the United Opposition, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen support in Kenya’s Coastal region ahead of upcoming political contests.

🎤 Kalonzo’s Speech Interrupted

During the rally, Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Party, was addressing supporters when a group in the crowd began chanting “Sifuna! Sifuna!”—appearing to demand the presence of the Nairobi senator.

The chants quickly grew louder, forcing Kalonzo to pause his speech and respond directly to the crowd.

🗣️ Assurance to Supporters

In his response, Kalonzo reassured attendees that Sifuna’s absence was temporary and that he is expected to align with the opposition in due time.

He explained that the senator is currently occupied with important matters within the Orange Democratic Movement party.

“Sifuna will come without a doubt. For now, he is handling pressing issues within ODM,” Kalonzo told the crowd.

⚖️ Internal Party Dynamics

Kalonzo further suggested that Sifuna’s cautious approach to joining the opposition coalition may be linked to ongoing internal disagreements within ODM.

He hinted that the senator is focused on resolving party matters and addressing what he described as external interference.

🌍 Growing Political Tensions

The incident highlights the shifting political landscape in Kenya, where alliances continue to evolve and public expectations remain high.

As opposition leaders intensify grassroots campaigns, moments like this reflect both the enthusiasm of supporters and the complex dynamics shaping political alignments ahead of future elections.
