The Youths for Credible Democrats of Nigeria (YCDON) in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have called on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to release the results of its primary elections conducted more than two weeks ago.
The group expressed concern over the delay, stating that aspirants and supporters have been left in uncertainty while other political parties have already announced their primary election outcomes.
Speaking after an emergency meeting in Ogidi, the Idemili North Coordinator of YCDON, Amb. Ifeanyi Anyadiegwu, said the prolonged delay contradicts the principles of fairness, inclusiveness and good governance which the party claims to uphold.
According to him, the withholding of official results has generated anxiety among party members and fueled speculation about possible manipulation of the outcome.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress is facing criticism over delayed official results following its primary elections. Many aspirants report that exact figures and winners remain undisclosed days after the exercise.”
He warned that continued delays could damage the party’s democratic image and weaken supporters’ confidence.
“Our concern is that results might be manipulated, altered or decided in backroom meetings rather than at the ballot box. We therefore demand immediate and transparent communication of the actual figures.”
Youths Endorse Emmanuel Nwobosi
The group also announced its support for Hon. Emmanuel Ike Nwobosi, a former Senior Special Assistant on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the Anambra State Governor, for the Idemili North State Constituency seat.
Anyadiegwu said the endorsement followed a review of aspirants’ manifestos, backgrounds and track records.
“We’ve settled for Emmanuel Nwobosi after considering his manifesto, family background, personality and antecedents.”
He added that Nwobosi has consistently supported youth development and positively impacted many young people in the area.
The group subsequently urged the NDC to release the authentic results of the primary election and officially declare the winner.
Peter Obi Calls for Unity
Earlier, Peter Obi appealed to NDC aspirants to accept the outcomes of the party’s primaries and work together in the interest of the party.
Speaking at the party’s NEC meeting in Abuja, Obi emphasized that internal competition is a normal part of democracy but cautioned that unresolved disputes could hinder the party’s growth.
The NDC leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots mobilization and electoral reforms, including plans for electronic voting and stronger internal democratic processes.
