A Nigerian cleric, Prophet Osagie Patrick, has stirred reactions after predicting that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) could withdraw its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a video circulating on social media, the cleric claimed that the party would remove Obi as its flagbearer between November and the first week of December 2026. According to him, some members of the party leadership would eventually lose confidence in the former Anambra State governor and move to replace him before the election.
Patrick further alleged that the development could lead to a legal battle, with Obi potentially seeking judicial intervention to challenge the decision.
The cleric referenced what he described as an earlier prophecy regarding the political fortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State. He claimed that years ago he predicted the party would lose its grip on power in the state and struggle to regain control.

The prophecy has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, particularly supporters of Peter Obi.
Some dismissed the prediction, insisting that Obi would remain the party’s candidate and contest the election. Others argued that even if such a situation were possible, it could be avoided through dialogue and internal party unity.
A number of social media users also questioned why some clerics publicly announce negative prophecies without encouraging efforts to prevent them from happening.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, Obi remains one of the most prominent opposition figures expected to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC.

For now, there is no official indication from the NDC that it plans to replace Peter Obi as its presidential candidate. The cleric’s statement remains a personal prophecy and has not been supported by any evidence from the party or its leadership.
