Habibu Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has confirmed a strategic political understanding between the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. He clarified this position while responding to criticisms surrounding the national spread of their alliance.
According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News on Friday May 22, 2026, while dismissing narratives that the opposition leader lacks structural popularity in the northern region of the country, he stated, “Peter Obi is known everywhere, and whether you want to work with him or not is a different matter because he is now in alignment with Kwankwaso,” emphasizing their growing cooperation.
The opposition spokesperson explained that the partnership between the two prominent political leaders represents a direct response to the current socio-economic realities confronting ordinary citizens across the federation. He maintained that their collaborative framework is built entirely on shared principles aimed at presenting a formidable, progressive front for upcoming national elections.
Furthermore, Mohammed dismissed derogatory comments made by state government representatives who sought to downplay the geographical reach and influence of the Labour Party leader in Kano State. He noted that the political ties between both movements have matured significantly over the past years, creating a solid foundation for sustainable democratic engagements.
In his concluding remarks, the spokesperson urged members of the public to disregard misleading statements designed to create friction within the emerging opposition coalition. He reiterated that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains fully committed to fostering cross-regional alliances that prioritize the welfare and protection of down-trodden Nigerians against harsh and unfavorable national economic policies.
