According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Abdulmumin Jibrin, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, has declared that he remains firm in his support for President Bola Tinubu and has no regrets over choosing that political path instead of aligning with his long-time mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jibrin made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he responded to questions surrounding his political career, evolving alliances, and his enduring relationship with some of Nigeria’s most influential political figures.

The lawmaker spoke extensively on the choices he has made over the years and how those decisions have shaped his position within the country’s political landscape.

Addressing concerns over his backing of President Tinubu, Jibrin rejected suggestions that his actions amounted to disloyalty toward Kwankwaso.

He maintained that political decisions should not automatically be viewed through the lens of betrayal, stressing that differing political alignments do not necessarily translate into personal animosity or broken relationships.

The Kano lawmaker further explained that his support for Tinubu was based on personal conviction and political preference, adding that such decisions are common within democratic systems.

He reiterated that his political stance should not be interpreted as an attempt to undermine his former political associate or erase the influence Kwankwaso has had on his career.

Speaking on his relationship with Kwankwaso, Jibrin described the former Kano State governor as both a mentor and benefactor who played a significant role in his political journey.

Despite their differing political affiliations, he said mutual respect remains, while insisting that he has never sought to publicly confront or criticise Kwankwaso over their differences.

Jibrin also reflected on his pattern of political engagement over the years, noting that he has consistently avoided attacking political leaders with whom he has worked.

He pointed to his interactions with President Tinubu as an example, explaining that even during periods of disagreement, he refrained from criticism.

According to him, when he temporarily exited Tinubu’s campaign structure in 2022, he chose instead to support another candidate without engaging in public condemnation of the President.

He said, “I didn’t abandon him; they expelled me from the party. Kwankwaso is my benefactor and mentor. I will continue to respect him. I will never make any comment or join issues with him.”
