Breaking: Kwankwaso breaks silence again over dumping Obi, NDC before 2027 election

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader and vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group described the reports as false and unfounded, maintaining that neither Kwankwaso nor the movement had threatened to quit the party over recent candidate substitutions.

Speaking on the matter, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said Kwankwaso considered the reports nothing more than rumours.

No Crisis Within the Party

Mohammed stated that there was no disagreement between Kwankwaso and the NDC leadership regarding the selection of candidates.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” he said.

According to him, speculation about a possible exit began after some candidates believed to be aligned with the movement were replaced. However, he insisted that such claims were baseless and did not reflect the position of the group.

Primaries Conducted According to Due Process

The spokesperson explained that the NDC conducted its primaries on May 29 in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He noted that party stakeholders had earlier agreed to adopt a consensus arrangement where necessary, with candidates subsequently ratified and submitted without any major internal disputes.

Commitment to Party Unity

Mohammed further stressed that Kwankwaso had not expressed any dissatisfaction with the party’s decisions and remained committed to the NDC.

He added that the party is focused on strengthening internal unity and preparing for the political activities leading up to the 2027 elections.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation over the future of alliances within the opposition camp and the role Kwankwaso is expected to play in the next general election.

NDC Closes Presidential Ticket Sale

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress recently announced the closure of sales for its Expression of Interest forms for the 2027 presidential ticket.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the NDC confirmed that no further presidential nomination forms would be sold to aspirants seeking to contest for the country’s highest office.
